CCT Scholarship Fund
Camden Civic Theatre has been awarding scholarships to students in the performing arts since 1975. Originally, funds for the scholarships were raised through dinner theaters held at the parish hall of the Congregational Church. The scholarship was renamed in memory of Richard Sims after his death in 1982. It later evolved into the The Richard Sims & Timothy Rhodes Scholarship.
Each spring CCT accepts applications for annual scholarships to be awarded to Midcoast high school students planning to pursue higher education in fields related to the performing arts.
Scholarship funds are currently raised through the sale of refreshments during CCT productions.
Students graduating from high schools in Waldoboro, Thomaston, Rockland, Camden, and Belfast, from private high schools in the Midcoast, or completing their homeschool education in the region are eligible to apply for scholarships. Students may major in theatre, film, radio, or television, including fields such as screenwriting/playwriting, set, lighting, and sound design, or post production. Applications from Midcoast students currently enrolled in undergraduate programs in need of tuition assistance are also eligible.
Application is by letter of interest, describing plans for future studies and past experience in the performing arts. Students are notified of the award the spring prior to their first (or next) semester of post-secondary study. The funds are awarded upon receipt by CCT of the recipient’s official grade report/ transcript showing they have successfully completed one semester of study with a minimum of a C average.
Application letters are now being accepted for the 2011 scholarship.
