President’s Message

Despite a frigid and deeply snowbound January, Camden Civic Theatre’s 43rd season is underway!  Working together is a Maine tradition that extends beyond the need to stay warm and safe in winter. Building on the success of our recent collaboration with the Atlantic Ballet Company for Godspell, we look forward to joining with other mid-coast groups to bring you shows that are more entertaining and exciting than ever!

In April we present our classic selection, Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare. Passions ignite, not only for the doomed young lovers, but also between the bands of Capulet and Montague hot bloods.  John Krauss of Down East School of Fencing will help us bring spirited swordplay to the stage. We hope to add local musicians who will provide period musical enhancement as the action moves to its tragic conclusion.

We embark on a new adventure in August, bringing Peter Pan, the Musical, fresh from it’s recent debut in the United Kingdom.  This is Pan as you have never seen him before, consorting with Indians, fighting pirates, and refusing to grow up.  Together with Tink, Wendy, John, Michael, and the Lost Boys, Peter’s imagination and gleeful mayhem join forces to make a rollicking good time for the young and young at heart.

The final show of our 2011 season, Dirty Work at the Crossroads, takes us back to the 1890’s when group participation was an essential part of the experience.  In melodramatic fashion, you are encouraged to cheer the hero, sigh for the heroine, boo the villain from the stage (maybe even throw a little popcorn?), delight in the entr’acte olios, waltz while the band plays on and sing along to beloved tunes from another era.

Through it all, our most important collaborator is you! We invite you to join us; on stage, back stage, front of house, as a sponsor, partner, or audience member.  Together we create the magic, and share the fun of live community theatre.

See you at the theatre-

Tiare
