President’s Message

“I will marry her, sir, but if there be no great love in the beginning, yet heaven may decrease it upon better acquaintance, when we are married.” Act 1, Scene 1

Thus Camden Civic Theatre will begin its 2010 season with the frolicsome farce, the Merry Wives of Windsor. In the cold and dark of winter we begin to work on Bill Shakespeare’s examination of love and lust, wives, husbands, and seducers, parents and children with all their comic complications. Acclaimed as Shakespeare’s funniest play, join us as Mistress Ford and Mistress Page lead Falstaff on a merry chase. The many laughs that ensue will be a sure cure for Spring Fever!

“I don’t want realism. I want magic!” Blanche DuBois, Scene 9

As summer arrives, CCT moves to hot and sultry New Orleans for a ride on The Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams.  Here, gritty reality crashes head on into the illusion of grace and beauty- or is it delusion? Using iconic characters, this Pulitzer Prize winner plumbs the depths of the soul and the pull of desire. Languorous and explosive, we hope Streetcar will ignite a passionate response in you!

“When you feel sad, or under a curse
Your life is bad, your prospects are worse…..
Yes, it’s all for the best!!!”

Who can deny that times are tough?  We end our season with the irrepressible Godspell proclaiming that we will make it through and the best is still ahead.  Full of music and hijinks, the community of players retell many of the stories found in the Gospel of St. Matthew. Sparkling with imagination, tenderness, and conviction, this is the show for the whole family!

We look forward to a season has something for everyone.  We invite you to join us, your friends and neighbors, as we make the magic of live theatre. Whether onstage, backstage, as a sponsor or audience member, together we confront the challenges and share the joys. Comedy and tragedy abound, and in the end we triumph.  For after all- “All the world’s a stage…”

See you at the theatre,

Tiare
